Reference Verification

Paste your manuscript reference list. Claude searches PubMed in real time, checks every field against the published record, and returns a verified list with status tags before you submit.

How it works

How this tool works and its limits. Each reference is verified against live PubMed records retrieved in real time from the NCBI E-utilities API — there is no knowledge cutoff. A token is roughly ¾ of a word; each reference check (citation, status tag, PMID, correction notes) consumes approximately 150–200 tokens. The current maximum per session is 16,000 tokens, which reliably handles up to about 80 references. For longer lists, split into batches of 40–50 and run them separately. PubMed retrieval depends on how closely the submitted reference matches the indexed record — ambiguous titles or unusual author formats may return no hit and be marked ⚠️ NOT FOUND even if the paper exists. A ⚠️ DISCREPANCY or ⚠️ NOT FOUND tag is a flag for your attention, not a definitive finding. Always confirm flagged entries independently on PubMed before journal submission.
